I purchased this scale and had if for about a month before I decided to return in. When I got the scale every thing seemed to work fine. However over the course of a month I lost 35 pounds. Every time I got on the scale, it read wrong. When I realized that something was not quite right, I tested it by putting my 10lb hand weights on it (for a total of 20 lbs). They only registered as weighing 17.7 pounds. I tried to contact the company about the warranty, but they never responded. I was so happy to return the scale. Who wants a scale that can not measure accurately?

This unit measures Weight (in Kg or lbs), BMI, muscle mass, body water and bone mass. I have no means to verify accuracy of the measurements. However, it reports my muscle mass as 91.9% of total mass. How I wish this was true! :-)
To measure BMI etc, you're feet need to be wet/damp and it is recommended you step on the thing right from the shower. Most of the time I actually have to sprinkle water on it to make it work as my feet apperantly dry up too quickly.
As other customers already reported, this scale is unreliable! Stepping on and off the scale a few times often gives you a different result with several pounds in between. It seems that the floor must be absolutely flat and its feet must not have any dirt on it. We have titles on the floor and they may be slightly uneven and every once in a while I clean the scale's bottom from a couple of stray hairs and/or dust.
Also, pressing down the buttons to select your profile or program the unit often makes it think someone is standing on it and so it starts to measure weight - thereby throwing you out the programming/selection mode. Very annoying.
My impression is that this is one badly constructed weighting scale I cannot recommend. I have fiddled with it enough to sort of make it work for me but there is not a day that goes by I am not annoyed by this thing.
Other HoMedics scales I have tried in the store appear to be having the same darn issues by the way. Though I have not owned any other HoMedics scale than the SC-520, I have learned my lesson and will never buy this brand again.

This product does not work! Its control never functioned
correctly and it only rarely did what it was supposed to
in two days of trying. If you don't like stepping on a lemon
than don't step on this 'weightless' scale!
